Getting people to read, and to read again. With you.
Cataloguing a collection and keeping track of loans is your job, and you already have the software for it. A school librarian wrote to tell us so, plainly, and she was right: this page used to promise to redo what you already do well. We have rewritten it. Tomeling is not a library management system and is not going to become one.
What interests us is the other half of the work, the half nobody has built a tool for: getting people to read, and to read again. A lunchtime reading club with its shortlist, its date and its discussion thread. A challenge a whole class takes on together. A favourite that travels from one pupil to the next, rather than from an adult to a pupil. A neighbourhood library and the school next door reading the same book. Tomeling already does some of this for readers; we want to shape it with you, not in your place.
It is free for schools and libraries, and that is not an introductory offer. Our pledge says free with no asterisk, and a school library is exactly the place where an asterisk would be indecent. What we promise readers holds first of all for pupils: no name, no tracker, nothing public unless they choose it. If it gets one more class reading, it has already paid for itself.
You run a school library, a public library, a reading club? Tell us what you are missing — and what does not work.
